In Loving Memory: Sgt. Louis James Loftus

82nd Airborne Division

Louis’ story is at the heart of The LJ Bridge Foundation. Named in his honor, the foundation reflects his courage as a devoted father, loved one, and 82nd Airborne veteran who served two tours in Afghanistan.

After returning home, Louis’ journey back to civilian life — followed for years by NBC’s Richard Engel — revealed the hidden struggles many Veterans face and the gaps in support that can leave families in crisis.

The LJ Bridge Foundation exists to honor his legacy by bridging those gaps, providing timely support, resources, and community so Veterans and their families never have to face these challenges alone.

How it Works

At The L.J. Bridge Foundation, we are committed to responding quickly, compassionately, and effectively when a veteran or family member reaches out for help. Our support process is designed to be simple, respectful, and fast — ensuring no one is left waiting during a difficult time.

Supporting veterans

Apply for Assistance
  1. Submit a Request

Veterans or family members complete a brief Request for Support Form, sharing what they’re facing and the type of help they need.

  2. 24-Hour Review

Our team reviews every request within 24 hours, prioritizing urgent situations so support can begin as quickly as possible.

  3.  Support Plan

We match each request with the right next steps—resources, referrals, or direct financial assistance when appropriate and available.

  4. Guided Connection

If another organization is better equipped to meet the need, we personally connect the veteran to trusted partners so there is always a clear path forward.

  5. Follow-Up

Whenever possible, we check back in to confirm support was received, identify any remaining gaps, and make sure every veteran feels heard and supported.

  6. If We Can't Help

If we can’t meet the need directly, we connect the veteran to trusted partners who can help right away so no one is left without a clear next step.
